My grandmother used to run after bullies on the playground.
When she was a young mother, she would literally try to break up fights. That’s how much she hated conflict.
I hate conflict, too, but not so much as to insert myself into the drama. I’ve found that’s counterproductive, as it usually fails to de-escalate anger, and hardly ever works to make the parties back down from their solid stance.
I’m all about trying to understand one another, having respectful conversations, and being open-minded. I’m not here to name-call, label, or place blame.
What I want to see in my lifetime, and for my children’s future, is respect for the rights of all humans. That’s why I intend to talk about ways in which we can attempt to come together, even though we may disagree about how we are going to get there.
If you oppose bigotry, racism, and hate crimes, I think we have a common goal. Let’s join together to ensure that love wins.
